Meer Dan Queer: Kruispuntdenken in actie

(for English: see below)

Beschrijving

    Expressie over polarisatie

Waar kwamen queer mensen vroeger samen?

    Information

Nobody is free, until all of us are free. This inspiring quote has been used by activists since the 1970s. Still, more than 50 years later, the LGBTI+ community stays divided by their differences.

On the first edition of çavaria’s training day “More Than Queer”, we give a platform to experts on different intersections. In this way we try to investigate how we could make our joint fight truly inclusive.

We will gain insights on how the different types of structural inequality are connected en how they are amplified in the daily reality of LGBTI+ people. We will also dwell on our own positions: How do our identities influence our view of the world? How can we use our positions to bring positive change? And mostly: How can we, as a community, bridge the tensions and save our energy for our joint fight to achieve a more righteous society for everyone?

      Creative expression on polarisation

by Naomi (they/them) and Julie (she/her)

When dealing with difficult topics, we often get too caught up in our thoughts, which means we don’t always know how to make sense of our feelings.
During this session, we’ll explore the themes of polarisation and infighting in a creative and sensory way. Your hands might get a bit dirty, but don’t worry: it washes off easily!
You don’t need to be creative at all to participate.

This workshop will be hosted in Dutch.

by Jeniffer (she/her) from Wel Jong

In this workshop, we’ll explore Belgium’s queer history together. How did the LGBTQIA+ movement come about? Where did queer people used to gather? And what role did cafés, meeting places and activism play in that history?

We’ll explore stories and anecdotes from different periods and also reflect on some lesser-known or surprising facts. In this way, we’ll discover how queer communities have built up their own spaces, networks and ways of finding one another over time.

In between, there’ll be time to chat together and reflect on how this relates to today. Using a few statements as a starting point, we’ll think about what has changed over the years, but also about which themes and experiences remain relevant today.

This workshop will be hosted in Dutch

      by Hilke (she/her)

Time to really get to know one another! Through thought-provoking questions and statements, you’ll engage in conversation with other participants on topics such as polarisation, infighting, cross-perspective thinking and personal experiences. You’ll regularly switch conversation partners, allowing you to discover different perspectives and stories.

This isn’t a debate or a search for the ‘right’ answer, but a space to listen, share experiences and learn from one another. You can look forward to fascinating conversations, surprising insights and great new connections!

This workshop will be hosted in Dutch and English.
